PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

What are the requirements to apply for assistance from R CITY's Harambee program?

  1. Your home must be located within the city limits of Chicago in the following neighborhoods: Humboldt Park, Austin, East & West Garfield Park. ***We are not accepting applications for any other locations at this time.
  2. You must own and live in your home. If your name does not appear on the city records as the owner of the property, you must provide proof that it is owned by a close family member. Work on rental properties does not qualify for assistance if you do not live there. You are welcome to consider paying market-rate for our tuckpointing work.
  3. You must be current on your property taxes before we can work on your home.
  4. You must meet our income eligibility requirements by reporting total monthly income for all members of your household.

      SELECTION PROCESS
      If I qualify for assistance, how will you decide if my home is a good fit?
      1. Our primary concern is always for our teen apprentice’s and young adult employees’ safety. We can only work up to 12 FEET and if tuckpointing your home requires tricky staging of scaffolding or ladders that only professionals should handle, we may not be able to help you.
      2. While our apprentices do excellent work, there are still certain types of brick walls and other situations that require skills beyond their training level. If this is the case, we may not be able help you, or we may only be able to repair part of your home.

      HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD INFORMATION
      DEMOGRAPHIC REPORTING
      We must collect general statistics about the demographics of our homeowners who utilize our financial assistance programs. This is required to qualify for $20 Tuckpointing or Sliding Scale work.  We NEVER share your specific information with anyone. Please be honest and accurate.

      If you are a property owner looking for a market-rate estimate, you can bypass this section. 

      Please list total MONTHLY income for ALL household members in each category, then add and place grand total at the bottom.
      PROOF OF INCOME
      To qualify for tuckpointing assistance, you will be required to show us a copy of your most recent tax return (within the last 12 months) which will prove both your total household income and the number of dependents you have. NOTE: R CITY CDC does not share this specific information with anyone. 

      You provide proof of income at the time of your home visit/estimate, or you can attach a PDF of your most recent tax return below.

      TUCKPOINTING NEEDS

      HOMEOWNER/PROPERTY OWNER AGREEMENT
      Read each item carefully before agreeing below.
      • I have filled this application out truthfully and completely.
      • R CITY CDC has my permission to visit my property as needed for inspection and evaluation of my tuckpointing needs.
      • I understand that R CITY CDC is a non-profit program operating to train teenagers in job skills and work ethic and is not professional tuckpointing company.
      • If my project is selected, I agree that I will not hold R CITY CDC liable for any damage or loss of property that might occur during the course of work being done. I also understand that because the work is greatly subsidized, R CITY CDC is under no obligation to finish the work if the project goes beyond the programs’ schedules.
