Building the Path ALL year long!
Our staff has been blessed as we reflect over the past year and all the accomplishments made and relationships deepened. Through many obstacles, R CITY has experienced a year providing a second home for remote learning, modifying programs for our youth in Print Shop and getting our Harambee teens back into the "grind" of work. As we are already preparing a summer full of fun for our kids, it's been a blessing to look back before we forget all the GOOD we've experienced!
Operation Second Home provided a safe space for 74 different students through 35 weeks of the school year, providing support and motivation all day long, 4 days a week- a grand total of 1,120 program hours!
Print shop continued designing custom clothing and investing in our youth through expressive art projects and creative outings including the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit and the Morton Arboretum.
Harambee apprentices got back outside during spring break for a 10-week after school program with 24 teen apprentices who served a total of 1,633 training hours providing subsidized tuckpointing for neighbors in need.
As many students returned to school in person, 37 children and junior high youth came back to our building in small pods for a short 6-week after school program full of enrichment activities, field trips around Humboldt Park and weekly trips to a community garden.
It has been a LONG school year for so many here in Chicago and we are excited to welcome the OFFICIAL LAST DAY of Chicago Public Schools next Tuesday- and we are SO ready for summer fun to begin!
We enter summer months praying for $100,000 in funding to fill up R CITY's programs- Will you help bring summer fun to our resilient kids?
