Like many of you, we enter a new year with much excitement! We start with thanksgiving for the generous gifts from so many this holiday season totaling $40,355. Your gifts came in big and small ways from across the country which included a donation of t-shirts from Manhattan and handmade quilts from Ohio. We are so encouraged by such generous provision for the work in Humboldt Park.
With the COVID surge from Omicron, we began the new year with the surprise of quickly switching over to school-day programming while CPS was not in session to provide a save haven for our children during the school day providing enrichment, physical activity and nutrition. We are glad to be back to our regular after school programming but thankful we have been able to meet new challenges with flexibility from our staff and support from all of you!
We enter our winter season with exciting news: R CITY is thrilled to have recently been awarded funding to expand our programming through the State of Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) to work with our students who have experienced (or at risk of experiencing) violence and will be hiring 6 new staff beginning in February. It is great news that we will be able to increase the support offered to the children and youth of our community.
